Lunar New Year – a year of completion By moving into the Lunar New Year, the year of the Earth Pig on 5th February, we are not just moving into another lunar year, but one of the most important in a 12 year lunar cycle for all of us. For the Year of the Pig is the final year of the natural 12 year lunar cycle, so it is a year of completion, endings and for summing things up. It is also a year when the Pig encourages us to rest on our laurels a little. After all, the Pig doesn’t believe in breaking into a sweat if you don’t have to! Each 12 year lunar cycle begins on the Year of the Rat and ends on the Year of the Pig and it is five of these 12 year cycles that make up a complete 60 year lunar cycle, or the sexagenary cycle, with all 12 years completing in the five elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
