6 Simple Steps to a Spiritual Summer

As the days get longer and the sunsets get richer, many people find they have much more time and energy to spend enriching their lives with positive practices. Summer is for healing and strengthening the spirit, but not many people truly benefit from the warm weather and bright sunshine. Instead of wasting the season distracted and disheartened, you can enjoy a serene, spiritual summer by sampling these six steps. 1. Unplug and Disconnect As much as possible, you should avoid digital devices. Various studies have highlighted the potential dangers of overusing electronics, including weakened muscles and eye strain. Plus, the loud sounds and bright colors of your electronic devices prevent you from being in the moment, which means you can’t fully enjoy the day and the people around you with a beeping, flashing gadget in your hand. Place your phone in a drawer, power down your computer, and swap your e-reader for a paper book. Your mind, body, and spirit will thank you. 2. Experience Nature Most children get excited about summertime because the warm …

4 Ways to Accept Your Blessings

Many wise spiritual gurus have instructed us on how to live and acknowledge the blessings we receive each day. Before receiving all of the blessings life “could” bring us, we must accept the blessings we already have. Read ahead to discover 4 ways to honor what you already possess within yourself. Perception is Relative Perspective determines the way you end up feeling about life. Have you ever looked at something upside down and didn’t know what it was? For example, you may want to feel mad that your car got totaled in an accident, but instead of realizing that you are alive and that a car can be replaced, you remain miserable. Appreciate and value the good under all circumstances. We do have …

5 Ways to Cope with Misfortune

We all go through misfortune in our lives from time to time. Relationships dissolve, loved ones pass away, jobs are lost and other material losses happen. However, it’s how we cope with things that either elevate us to a higher understanding or spiral us downward into a sad and despairing place. Even if we’ve chosen to spiral down into a sad space in the past doesn’t mean we can’t chose differently next time. Here are some tips how you can deal with misfortune in a healthy manner. 1- Be Resilient People that are resilient take life’s ups and downs much easier than those who are so ridged and set in their ways. It is important to know that life is not always perfect or goes the way we want it to be. Both fortune and misfortune happen to us, sometimes even simultaneously. It is up to us to realize that being flexible is necessary. By appreciating the ebbs and flows of life helps us knowing whenever there is a dark moment – there is always a moment of light coming …

Unless you are a narcissist, you probably have moments about yourself that make you want to vanish off the face of the earth whenever you remember them. The specifics about what makes a person cringe because of themselves is as unique as we all are, but the experience of that embarrassed feeling where you wish you could crawl (or fall) into a hole is truly universal. Why is it for many of us we can never get past the cringe and forgive ourselves to be able to love ourselves? It’s almost like that Mary Lambert’s song, “Secrets.” In her immutably quirky way, the songstress points out the quick answer as to why it is so hard to love ourselves in the chorus: “They tell us from the time we’re young. To hide the things that we don’t like about ourselves, inside ourselves.” Although delivered in the artist’s tongue-in-cheek style, the lyrics are not all the way wrong – she makes a point. From an early age, we are taught to hide our weaknesses and focus on our strengths, …
