Welcome to my blog post, and it is a pleasure to have your attention! If you are reading this to assess if I prove to you why you should celebrate Christmas, or maybe judge this post’s validity? Either way, this is the way of the world. We look at things with black and white lenses, when we all know that a lot of life happens in the grey area. Let’s explore with an open mind and an open heart!
I am from an Indian background, born and raised in Scotland, so celebrating Christmas was normal. We see it as a joyous time when families get together and enjoy this festive period of love and light. However, during my latter years in the UK, I noticed that some of my friends would not greet me back. Upon questioning this, I noticed many sceptics who wouldn’t even say “Merry Christmas” back to those who wished them such greetings. So, I want to take this opportunity to highlight some vital points around Christmas.
Why you should celebrate Christmas? – It is about compassion…
Christmas is known as the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth. However, some claim that Jesus was not born on this day! Nevertheless, sharing greetings of love and light to one other is the best way to walk through this precious life. Jesus was a Jewish religious leader, who the Romans crucified for preaching a way of life that threatened them! This inhumane behavior was unnecessary, cold, and evil. We pay our respects and gratitude for humankind’s love through celebration, regardless of what religion you claim. We do this due to the human values of love, appreciation, humbleness, kindness, and respect!
This post aims not to establish right or wrong, and all are free to their own beliefs in life. Rather, this post asks you to emphasize with compassion about what Jesus did for the people he knew in his lifetime, and how his suffering and experience brought a new way for many. This new way is now what you and I call Christianity, whose tenants are based on love and tolerance. Globally, Christmas is a joyful festival when families unite during holidays, share gifts, meals, and love. Remembering the love Jesus spoke about. These humane values of sharing and celebrating in love and light are not just for Christians, are they?
Sometimes, many get wrapped up in using “Religious Titles,” and we fail to see the similarities between humans and our experiences. Being grateful and being open to our creator’s blessing is a desire for all. Isn’t it? So why you should celebrate Christmas? Well… perhaps it’s time to put negative stereotypical views aside and rejoice in the here and now; spread love and light this Christmas!
