Pay attention when you perform candle ritual!
Anytime when you perform candle ritual, you should know that it is very important to always use a virgin candle, meaning an unused one. The reasoning behind this is that a previously used candle still carries the vibrations of your old workings, therefore may have the wrong effect on your candle, and most of the time, your Magic will not work out.
Sometimes it is okay to use certain candles again, such as altar candles. They are burned all the time with the same intention. But before each usage, I still clip off the burnt wick and cleanse, recharge and redress the candle for the next use. Some might disagree with this method, but it works impeccably for me.

Clean your candles
It’s important to cleanse each candle you get before you perform a candle ritual. You can do this simply by putting the candle in a bowl of cool water and keep a cleansing intention in mind as you do this. There are other ways to do this as well, such as holding it over the smoke of sage, or leaving in the moonlight over night, or even burying it in sea salt for a day. It only takes a couple minutes with a bowl of cool water. Make sure to dry it off. Now your candle is fresh, cleansed, and…oh my gosh, naked!!! We have to dress it!
Dressing the candles to perform candle ritual?
Dressing your candle means anointing it with oils. When dressing a candle you are actually attaching your intention to it. There are many, many ways to dress a candle. There is truly no wrong way to do it. You can even use virgin olive oil. Whatever you choose, or what essential oil you decide to use is totally up to you. There are as many oils as there are herbs for this purpose.
Before we begin to anoint the candle with oils, it might be a good idea to inscribe our candle first. It will be less slippery! There are many words and concepts you can inscribe into the candle to enhance the purpose. For example, if doing some healing work for someone with a back pain, I might inscribe their name in the candle, and the word heal, or even healing symbols. It helps the effect and makes the Candle Magic much more potent. You can use a simple nail or a toothpick to do this and if you need more practical advice just contact me now.

The way I like to anoint a candle is the following if I perform candle ritual where I am trying to repel something, I drop oil at the bottom of the candle and rub it from the bottom to the top, always the same direction, never overlapping in the opposite direction, on all sides of the candle. If I wanted to bring something to me, I would drop oil to the top of the candle and rub the oil in a downward fashion to the bottom, again, in the same direction. Others may argue this, AGAIN, there is no wrong way, do what feels right to you. Others may prefer to start dripping the oil at the middle of the candle, and rub the oil going opposite directions, some may even do this in a spiral. The important part is making sure your focus and intentions are clear.
Visualize what you want to happen as you dress your candle.
Again there are many different oils that can be found, or you can even produce your own oil to do your ritual with. Each oil and herb can be used when you perform candle ritual, in different combinations to bring to you different outcomes, or even make a working more potent. For example, again in doing a ritual for someone to help heal their soar back, I might combine tea tree oil to represent a cooling effect on their pain, and sage to represent the healing effect. I would probably use a white candle if this was a spine problem, a blue candle to add a cooling effect to cure a hurt muscle, or a red candle if it is heat they require. It is very important to be on the same page with the person you are doing the work for.
