Mindfulness meditation is apparently the simplest of them all, but the most effective. I started it in 1991 and because of its multiple benefits, it is still a part of my spiritual practice.

Mindfulness meditation doesn’t require any special tools apart of those ones you always have at hand: your breath and your body. By focusing on your natural rhythm of breathing and on the sensations in your body, you gradually learn how to extend your awareness to all of the activities and areas in your life. This will connect you with your inherent wisdom and will enable you to be 100% unconditionally present in the current moment.

Unfortunately, certain types of New Age meditation methods, based on techniques of visualization, distort reality and try to turn you into someone different, someone who has nothing to do with your real personality. Thus, instead of bringing genuine, long term improvements they will rather teach you how to escape natural discomforts, like the pains of your human condition. This will eventually lead you to skip away from your core duties and responsibilities. On a long term, such an escapist attitude will deprive you from real progress, as it makes it virtually impossible to experience your true creative potential.

Thus, you recognize if something does really need to be changed. Also, you are present and focused enough to understand what needs to be done and how. So, instead of wishing for things to be different, you can take action and make things to be really different.
